Just wanted to share some info. I just got off the phone with a Sergeant from the Lexington Police Department. The operator said she was putting this man on in particular because he was their "motorcycle expert." I asked him if it was legal to put a side-mount, vertical license plate on a motorcycle in Kentucky. He said that in Lexington they will not bother you unless the plate is hidden from view or not illuminated. He said the main problem they have is with sport bikes that tuck the plate way up under the tail where it can't be seen. I specifically asked him about mounting a vertical plate to my bottom shock bolt and he said it was no problem. He specifically said that it wouldn't be a problem in Lexington, but he couldn't say for other areas. You would think this would be Statewide one way or the other, but I guess it isn't.
I was wanting to mount a plate like this on the Mean Streak but didn't want to go to the trouble and expense until I knew for sure. I just wish I had a code in writing that I could carry on the bike just in case...
